Maple Syrup

Mill Road Maple is owned and operated by the Brett Ford family.  The famly works together to gather sap from approximately 1,500 taps in Fulton, Franklin, and Huntington Counties, Pennsylvania.
Our sap is then processed in our sugar house at our home in Fulton County.
In early January, our family taps over 1,300 Maple trees.  As the temperature fluctuates above and below freezing, the sap starts to flow.  When conditions are just right, the sap may run for a few hours or even several days which is called a run. By the end of March, we will have had between 6 – 12 runs of Maple sap. Each tap hole produces a season average of 10-20 gallons of fresh sap. During the busy season of sugaring, we are continually gathering sap and boiling it off in our wood-fired evaporator.  On many days, the steam can be observed rising from our sugar house.
It takes 50 – 60 gallons of fresh sap to produce 1 Gallon of Pure Pennsylvania Maple Syrup.
